Antimony is a special type of Computer-Aided Design software.
With this tool you can program your 3d model, instead of the standard click and drag interface. So you ask the question, Why using code to design 3d models?
Well, for starters code is the closest thing to the ground truth of a software. And you want to stay close to it for some reasons:
1- it teaches you how to think and organize your ideas better as it is a strict logic process
2- let’s you automate routine jobs and save precious time on the medium and long run
3- turns you into a powerful magician

1.0 INSTALATION

1.1 DEPENDENCIES

There are several dependencies you need to consider to run this application.
* Qt open source
* libpng-dev
* python3-dev
* liboost-all-dev
* libgl1-mesa-dev-lts-utopic
* git

QT is one of the state of the art end user-experience tools used by lots of softwares running Linux and Machintosh operative systems.
Matt Keeter used this open source tool for creating the visual interface of this software, so before anything else, we should start by downloading QT open source.

Go to the folder where you downloaded QT, right-click the file and hit properties. Under permissions allow “executing file as program” and close.

Now you can double-click the file and follow the installer. When you’re prompted to choose a folder, I usually prefer to send Qt or any other well behaved software to the /opt/qt/ directory.

This installation might take a while…

After QT is installed run this other dependencies.

sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo apt-get install libpng-dev
sudo apt-get install python3-dev
sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev
sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dev-lts-utopic
sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dev
sudo apt-get install lemon
sudo apt-get install flex

1.2 DOWNLOAD FROM GITHUB

As the software is published on Github we are going to install Git so we can download Antimony and keep the software linked for updates.

sudo apt-get install git
git clone https://github.com/mkeeter/antimony /opt/

1.3 BUILD ANTIMONY

cd antimony
mkdir build
cd build
/opt/Qt/5.4/gcc_64/bin/qmake ../sb.pro
make -j8

1.4 CREATE SYMLINK

ln -s /opt/antimony/build/app/antimony /usr/local/bin/antimony

 

1.5 BASH SCRIPTING FOR FAST INSTALLATION

If you’re already aware of this steps and just want to start using Antimony, we’ve developed an easy way for you.

This is a simple shell automation for the terminal in which all the above steps will run automatically. For starting the installation process just open a text editor paste the following code lines, save the file as antimony.sh and run it on the terminal ./antimony.sh.

sudo ln -s /opt/antimony/build/app/antimony /usr/local/bin/antimony
antimony
